Pre Xmas gathering at my sister-in-law's

Instead of taking the LIRR from Penn I decided to take it from Jamaica. I took the "J" Train (Jamaica Avenue el) from Essex and was fortunate to have a semi-clean front window.

I hadn't been on the Jamaica Avenue el in the daytime since high school. When I was going to school in Brooklyn, Bishop Loughlin, I sometimes took the Myrtle Avenue el to Myrtle Avenue changed to the Jamaica Avenue el to 168th Street and then the buses home. This was instead of the more direct route: "GG" Clinton Washington to Queens Plaza and then the "E" to 169th Street and then a walk to the 165th Street bus terminal.

Because of the length of the trip and the limitations of Youtube and anyone who views the video, I broke it into six segments:

  • Essex to Marcy over the bridge
  • Marcy to Myrtle
  • Myrtle to Broadway Junction
  • Broadway Junction to Cypress Hills
  • Cypress Hills to Woodhaven
  • Woodhaven to Parsons Archer

Couldn't even afford a flashing red light!

Budget cuts are happening all over the place. There is no organization safe from them:

Waiting for the Staten Island Ferry watched this young girl play "pickpocket" with her father's MetroCard and pocket.

Down to Coney Island again last evening for the Friday fireworks. Took some good images of them and put them together in a slide show. I have uploaded a version to YouTube:

Had great audio, but alas it is copyrighted so I have removed it.

I can email full sized images if anyone wants them.

Sunset over the harbor, taken from water taxi pier in the East River just below Wall Street. It is a sequence of stills put together in a Quicktime movie. The individual images are at .25 seconds.

There is a copter landing from the left.
